We recently caught up with one of our first website clients, Justin Williams. Justin is a Tallahassee native who attended Leon High School before graduating to the University of West Florida in Pensacola. He played basketball for the Argonauts for four years while earning his B.S. in Science. After UWF, Justin began earning his doctorate in Particle Physics at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Recently, Mr. Williams accepted a job offer to work for Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab where he will be doing contracting work for the government agency Space Force. He plans to begin his new position after he graduates in May 2021.

What will you be doing in your new position with Space Force?

I will be helping with research and development for defending U.S. satellites in earth’s orbit. We rely on satellites for every day things like GPS, bank transactions, things like that. They are actually very vulnerable to basic attacks that, if carried out, could crumble our country’s infrastructure. Many people do not realize it, but we are in a Cold War-type standoff with other countries right now in space, and without these defense and attack mechanisms continuing to evolve, we can fall behind and lose an advantage.

What made you realize this is the career path you were interested in?

Lawrence, Kansas or Pensacola, Florida? And Why?

I love the feel of Lawrence and the ambiance of the Midwest, but Pensacola, Florida is one of my favorite cities in the world. I fell in love with the greenery of the UWF campus since my first visit, and it doesn’t hurt that Pensacola is home to the “World’s Greatest Beaches.”

What was your favorite memory of playing basketball at UWF?

How has Monitor Media Group helped you?

A couple of years ago I was not really sure what I wanted to do. At the time, I was testing the waters in the job market, while also considering entering a Ph.D. program. With the website that MMG built me, I was able to showcase a lot of my research and experience to people that were interviewing me for different positions. In fact, in one of my interviews it came up in conversation that they found an article I wrote on my website and that really impressed them. I truly believe that my portfolio website helped me stand out from the competition, and I am so grateful for their work.
